Stress Relief for Today’s Businesswoman

By Sharon M. O'Connor, RN
How is life treating you? Many women in our culture feel pressured by a combination of home and work demands. At work, many have increased responsibilities because of cutbacks along with concerns about their own jobs. At home, we have responsibilities of taking care of our children, errands, and household tasks, as women tend to take on the bulk of the home responsibilities in addition to being business professionals and entrepreneurs. All of this responsibility creates a lot of stress. The American Psychological Association online study reports 77% of those polled said they experienced physical symptoms of stress during the prior month; 73% experienced psychological stress during that same time frame. If you're experiencing stress, you're not alone.
Enter an ancient art and medical practice called hypnotherapy.
Hypnosis and hypnotherapy have been around for as long as people have been sharing stories to encourage or inspire others. It remains a simple, cost effective, evidence based tool that is far underused.
Can hypnosis help you? Probably. First, hypnotherapy is fabulous for reducing stress. Most stress has an external component-what is going on outside of you- and all stress has an internal response- how you respond. Our emotions are created by the subconscious mind and not totally within our control. For instance, if you watch a sad movie, do you choose to cry? Not usually. It just happens. It's the emotion that our subconscious chooses based on our past experiences. Hypnotherapy is a powerful tool to reframe our past simply and easily and allow us to experience relaxation even in the face of challenges.
I practice hypnotherapy in my office in Hampton, NH. During the past 7 years, I've been able to facilitate significant changes in the lives of many women, just by reducing their stress.
A female executive responsible for 125 employees sought help for managing stress. Supported by three group hypnotherapy sessions, she was able to accomplish the very unpleasant task of staffing cutbacks and remain appropriately relaxed.
Another young woman who sought help for PTSD experienced positive changes in every aspect of her life. After 15 years of traditional psychotherapy with minimal results, hypnotherapy was able to allow her to sleep at night, drive a car without fear, enhance her public speaking abilities, successfully change careers and become financial successful.
It is important to remember that our beliefs control our actions and accomplishments. If, in the back of our mind, we have negative beliefs about sales people, our sales success will be limited. If we have experienced embarrassment speaking to others, our public speaking abilities are impacted. Conversely, if we believe we are capable, knowledgeable and hugely successful, we will be. If we feel we are worthy, we will fulfill our potential.
What does all this mean for you? If you're feeling stressed, overwhelmed, or blocked in some area of your life, a quick solution is available. Hypnotherapy is offered by many qualified practitioners in the form of private or group sessions or on professionally recorded CD's. It is affordable, safe, comfortable and it works. Whether you are preparing for a big client presentation or trying to land that big account and want to reduce the stressful impact these things are having on you, consider an old-age effective solution – hypnotherapy.
