Welcome to The International Hypnosis Research Institute Web site. Our intention is to support and promote the further worldwide integration of comprehensive evidence-based research and clinical hypnotherapy with mainstream mental health, medicine, and coaching. We do so by disseminating, supporting, and conducting research, providing professional level education, advocating increased level of practitioner competency, and supporting the viability and success of clinical practitioners. Although currently over 80% of our membership is comprised of mental health practitioners, we fully recognize the role, support, involvement, and needs of those in the medical and coaching fields. This site is not intended as a source of medical or psychological advice. Tim Brunson, PhD

Your State of Internal Affairs

by Annette Bergstein, CHt

Is there something that you want to do or accomplish but think of every reason not to get started? You know you have the skill, ability and desire but something stops you from moving forward. A little voice in your head says "I can't do that!", "I'm not good enough!" or "I could fail and make a fool of myself!" Yes – it's self-sabotage at work; sub-conscious self-destruction. Your state of internal affairs!

Negative self-talk is usually conditioning formed during childhood and follows you throughout your life. You usually don't recognize it which allows the negativity to strengthen. It causes illogical and irrational behavior and destroys your self-esteem and self-confidence. It prevents you from being successful, which, in turn, prevents you from happiness and fulfilling relationships.

Surprisingly, positive self-talk can be just as powerful. If you say "I can do this", you are far more likely to be successful. Listen to your thoughts and decide whether these thoughts will help or hurt you; then immediately STOP your negative thoughts. Rethink your thoughts into positive ones and imagine the results with success.

If you have a specific goal, write it down with the positive outcome. Put it on your computer screen saver, post it on your bathroom mirror, your refrigerator, your car, your boat or any place that you see frequently.

Hypnosis can be a very successful tool to help eliminate self-sabotage. Since self-sabotage is conceived in your subconscious mind, reprogramming your subconscious allows you to break free from negative thoughts and install creative suggestions for new and healthy behaviors.

Don't be your own worst enemy, be your own best friend! When negative self-talk rears its ugly head, put a STOP to it immediately. Don't let it prevent you from moving forward and achieving your goals.

Hypnosis is an affordable, natural and effective solution for the treatment self-sabotage. Stop getting in your own way and you will be amazed how quickly your life can change.
