Reversing Chronic Pain: A 10-Point All-Natural Plan for Lasting Relief
by Maggie Phillips, Ph.D.
A book review by Tim Brunson DCH
Dr. Maggie Phillips has done it again. Her new book, Reversing Chronic Pain is a gem. She provides patients with a comprehensive self-help manual while giving clinicians a sufficiently documented resource which can be easily integrated in their practices. As usual, her non-dogmatic, eclectic approach allows one to customize a "cocktail" of techniques that will most likely result in relief from chronic pain.
Based upon over 25 years as a clinical psychologist, Dr. Phillips' principle-based methodology is the result of her smorgasbord of talents ranging from psychology, hypnosis, EMDR, mindfulness, energy medicine and energy psychology. Considering her vast clinical background, her tested recommendations are based upon experience rather than just theory. Equally, I am impressed with her balanced respect for both the mind and body. Obviously, she is a unique psychologist that has taken the time to study and understand the "body" side of the equation.
Reversing Chronic Pain is an up-to-date collection of mind/body approaches to chronic pain. And, many readers will find that it's easy-to-read, logical format and interesting comment allow you to easily journey through her concepts. Her introduction and first chapter give the reader the theoretical basis for her ideas. Then her final chapter aptly summarizes the high lights of each of the 10-points in her program. Nevertheless, you will find each chapter extremely clear with clear explanation of the underlying concepts, the basics of each technique, and examples that can be easily mastered. Again, this book is both easy enough to benefit a patient while valuable enough for a clinician.
The other endearing quality is the gentleness and compassion that Dr. Phillips displays throughout the book. She has always impressed me as a clinician who is well versed professionally, while having the personal touch needed to be an effective healer. She continues to be one of my favorite authors. This book is highly recommended!
