"The Psychogenetics System" – Your Parents are your subconscious mind!

by Kevin Gaspard and Anne Teachworth
In hypnosis it is commonly accepted that "your body is your subconscious mind"; but in "The Psychogenetics System" (TPS), it is emphasized that "Your Parents are your subconscious mind". Teachworth has developed a comprehensive approach which utilizes in part hypnotheraputic techniques in the identification of both inherited "nature and nurture" patterns from the family of origin as well as guided imagery techniques referred to as "reimprinting" to redesign your subconscious programs and create the happy childhood you deserve.
TPS uses methods from both psychology and hypnosis therapeutic techniques. Hypnosis techniques such as, age regression, time distortion, revivification, mental shock, parts therapy, and mental confusion are employed. From the psychology arena, Gestalt therapy, NLP, Psychodrama, Transactional analysis, psychoanalysis, and behavioral modification are utilized.
The analysis tool or hypno-analysis tool used in the beginning of the session is called the "Family of Origin Inquiry" and was developed by Teachworth and explicitly described in her book "Why we pick the mates We do". The reader can notice the age regression/time distorting nature of the questions in the family of origin inquiry. It is commonly known in hypnosis that by reorienting a person back in time, that trance is induced. This technique was commonly used by Milton Erickson and is explained in depth in his book "Time Distortion".
The first three questions target the nature (hardwired genetic personality traits) and the remaining five target the nurture (environmentally programmed "epigenetic" personality traits). Here are the eight trance inducing questions used in TPS: 1) Describe your Self as the child you were from 0-10 years of age, 2) Describe your mother (or stepmother) as the adult she was when you were a child, 3) Describe your father (or stepfather) as the adult he was when you were a child, 4) Describe your female parent as a parent, 5) Describe your male parent as a parent, 6) Describe your father-child relationship, 7) Describe your mother-child relationship, and 8) Describe your mother and father's relationship when you were a child. These eight questions are strategically placed to induce mental confusion on an 8.5" x 11" sheet of paper and the client is given less than 10 minutes to complete the test.
Writing the answers on the family of origin selection test elicits the visual system, and the auditory system is targeted by the therapist asking the questions to the client. The depth of trance is further deepened by the kinesthetic representational system where the therapist has the client role play each parent as they were when she was a child, role play her relationship to the parent-back-there-then, as well as role play herself back-there-then. Thus, the three major representation systems utilized in NLP are covered. As you probably have already noticed, the client is always oriented towards a somnambulistic trance, time distortion is the rule, abreactions will surface and in fact are encouraged because they cause mental shock which releases stored repressed/suppressed emotions thereby orienting the client to a state of high suggestability or imprint vulnerability. This heightened state of suggestability is the prime state for "Reimprinting" to occur, which is the ultimate outcome in TGS. "It is never to late to have a happy childhood."
It is well known that the subconscious mind can't distinguish the difference between an imagined experience or a real one as long as the imagined experience is rich in sensory detail and meaningful (isomorphic) to the person. The present is used to change the past with "Reimprinting", thereby setting the stage for a bright and bountiful future. Reimprinting is brought about by utilizing guided pneumonic restructuring commonly referred to as "guided imagery". The difference between guided imagery in TGS and standard guided imagery is that the client develops the "Guided Imagery" themselves with little or no intervention from the therapist. In TGS, there are no prewritten scripts utilized.
The typical reimprinting process begins by having the client role play the situation as they remember it and then role play the situation as they would like to have had it happen. Once the role playing has occurred, the client is directed to write out the new story and read it out loud to themselves for 21 days prior to going to sleep at night in order to fully embed the reimprinted memory(s) in their subconscious mind. In TGS, it is taught that the body believes what the person speaks out loud, therefore it is imperative that the "reimprinting script" be spoken out loud and preferably with passion.
The TGS reimprinting method differs from traditional parts therapy in that the client does not dialogue with the part to bring forth resolution. Instead the client becomes the part (role plays - revivification), and speaks and feels as that part which allows assimilation to occur. This way the client owns the part and experiences it as a projection instead of thinking of the part as a (me and it). This process eliminates inner conflict, because once assimilation of the part or fragment occurs, there is no other to conflict with. Holism is established!
