Giving EFT / Tapping another look can it be a beneficial tool to help your clients and patients?
Even though Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) has been around since 1997 when it was created by Gary Craig, it's only been in the last few years that it has started really getting a lot of popular exposure. Superstar singer Madonna is rumored to be a big fan of EFT. Sir Laurence Olivier, an award winning actor, used it. And, singer Michael Ball does a tapping session to calm his nerves before going on stage each night and has been seen doing it on a daytime TV chat show. Pop star Lily Allen, famous for songs such as LdN and The Fear, is understood to use the technique for weight loss. American PGA players have been spotted using it when golfing. And, Norwegian pole-vaulter Rens Blom credited his unexpected 2005 World Championship Gold to its powers.
But is it just a fad or a New Age panacea? Are practitioners sandal-clad kaftan wearers, or are they respected members of the health and self-improvement communities?
Just search for EFT or Tapping on YouTube and you'll pull up hundreds of video testimonials and demonstrations. However, are these videos merely anecdotal story-telling, or does the it really have the ability to clear traumatic memories of accidents, abuse, and violence, address chronic health issues such as asthma, IBS and help break though our own self-sabotaging thoughts so that we can achieve our goals?
Some of the leading names in the alternative health world have evaluated EFT and found that it does indeed seem to offer incredible benefits to those using it. Indian American alternative health speaker and author Deepak Chopra is known across the globe as an expert in Ayurveda and spirituality. Deepak has been quoted as saying "EFT offers great healing benefits.." Bruce H. Lipton, PhD, is an internationally recognized leader in bridging science and spirit. Stem cell biologist, bestselling author of The Biology of Belief and recipient of the 2009 Goi Peace Award, he has whole-heartedly embraced this technique and its usefulness in the healing and change professions. There is nothing really anyone can say that will have the ability to prove or disprove to an individual the efficacy of EFT or Tapping – when it comes down to it the proof rests with a personal experience of it. I have found it pretty remarkable in being able to diffuse strong emotions. I've also found it invaluable as a sleep aid – especially in the middle of the night when popcorn thoughts threaten to keep me awake. Just a couple of rounds of tapping will instantly calm my thoughts so that I can easily drop back off to sleep.
One of the best places to get an idea of the technique and to learn more in a short amount of time is the free annual online Tapping World Summit.
