The Mind/Body Connection: Energy “Medicine & Emotional Cleansing

by Blanc Greenberg, ND
The molecules in the body are constantly recreating. We can clearly comprehend this when we analyze the organ of the skin and how the layers of cells are constantly in motion of reproduction and rejuvenation. Intellectually, though, we do not always apply this fundamental truth to the rest of the structure --specifically when it deals with illness and/or disharmony in the body or the mind.
When we explore the inquisition of what "keeps the body functioning," we look at the organs as a primary source. Very rarely do we bring emphasis to the true source of functionality and vitality--the movement of energy--of life force. Movement of life force is expressed through breathe but it is also existent in the very core of emotional disposition and in the state of "being" that is being expressed in the structure.
In order to unveil wholeness to the body, we must examine what is expressing in the "body" but we must also explore the movement of energy in the form of emotions. E-motions are nothing more than Energy in motion. Emotions are the flow of breathe that filter through every aspect of the structure and which provide the "fuel" of vitality. What becomes vital is to determine the quality of the "fuel" that is being filtered through the body. If emotions are light and flowing, the quality of "fuel" transported into the structure is considered premium fuel. However, if emotions are heavy and stagnant, the quality of "fuel" is diminished. Consequently, disharmony in the structure in the form of physical and mental imbalances can occur.
Traditional allopathic protocols generally address imbalances of the structure with medications and treatments. Although proven to help alleviate symptoms of illness or imbalances of the structure, allopathic treatments rarely offer the opportunity for complete restoration of balance or healing. This is why medication is only a remedy. Conversely, allopathic medications are often accompanied by a host of side effects and probable development of other conditions as a consequence of use. Measuring up the risks of developing other conditions and unpleasant side effects, the invitation has arrived for practitioners to incorporate in their practices the optimal benefits of holistic and spiritual alternatives and to offer a diversity of choices to patients in the area of care and treatment.
In my private practice I wear several hats. I am a doctor of Natural Health, with an emphasis on herbal remedies. In addition, I am a Reiki Master, Shamanic healer, and Spiritual Counselor. When a patient comes for a session, I seek to utilize as many of the "hats" that I wear if the patient is willing. In a perfect setting, the "counselor" begins the session" as we discuss the mental and physical state of the patient. I invite the patient to not only share the details of their physical disharmonies --but to also share any underlying emotional issues. Professionally, I believe that almost every "root cause" of disharmony will be discovered if an exploration of the emotional well-being of a patient is examined. In addition, if the patient is willing, we explore the benefits of energy work.
I explain to the patient that energy work is founded on the holistic and spiritual philosophy that the body is sustained and supported through the flow of energy and as such, the quality of energy can be restored through the practice of energy balancing. Energy work facilitates the release of stagnate energy due to heavy emotional energies. Patients experience a deep sense of emotional release and a mental and physical state of relaxation when they experience energy work. They also experience a deep connection to their spirit.
Whenever necessary, I will make herbal recommendations that can assist in the healing process but I place emphasis on the importance of obtaining and maintaining mental and emotional well-being as the first protocol. Finally and most importantly, I invite patients to become proactive in recreating their state of emotions through examination of toxic emotions and by implementing tools and practices that will assist them to establish a new state of "being." Most patients receive "homework" instead of a prescription. This gives the patient a tangible tool to work with that invites him or her to be involved in his or her own healing process.
It has been proven that the expressions of love and compassion can heal. What most patients truly need is a safe environment where they can truly express themselves and be heard and understood as they talk about their pain--both physical and emotional. Economics have primarily created stressful and unpleasant experiences for patients in which many times, they are required to wait for hours to see a medical professional, only to spend a few minutes in the consultation area. After waiting for so long, the few minutes patients spend in the consultation room are exhausted answering medical and technical questions about their health. Most patients yearn to experience at the very least, a few moments of eye contact with their practitioner; a sign that they are truly being heard.
While we must honor the rules of professional boundaries regarding client/patient/practitioners practices, we will never be able to truly measure the healing gift that we can render as practitioners when we connect to patients and clients on a human level of love and compassion. In my office, the average session is 75 minutes.
At the end of each session, a patient receives a warm hug! Many patients who return often say they were inspired to come back because they received so much from my hug. It does not cost us anything to display love and compassion as we fulfill our roles as care professionals. It is by far, the greatest remedy we can provide.
After eleven years of practice, I am still awe struck by the miraculous transformations that I witness from patients. Not every patient recovers from his or her physical imbalances but many have after experiencing Energy medicine and emotional cleansing. However, the greatest achievement has been that every patient and client has experienced a new paradigm for achieving wellness and wholeness that is within their reach. They have discovered that the greatest "healer" lives within them and that they can be an active participant in their healing by beginning the "healing process."
