Welcome to The International Hypnosis Research Institute Web site. Our intention is to provide quality information to clinicians and the general public concerning hypnosis, hypnotherapy, and other mind/body modalities. We intend to expand our coverage to include such topics as Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), energy psychology and medicine, and other related topics. While our intention is to provide quality information derived from valid sources, including peer reviewed literature concerning significant research, this site is not presented as a source of medical or psychological advice. Clinicians wishing to expand their scope of practice or protocols based upon presented information should perform due diligence prior to use. It is our sincere hope to stimulate interest in these topics and to contribute to the evolution of the science of hypnosis. -- Tim Brunson, PhD

Cheers to the New Year!

by Joyce-Anne Locking

How easy it is for us to get too wrapped up in the bustle of everyday life, so much so we sometimes lose track of thought. If possible, it would be nice to take time to sit and gaze out the window and let the day unfold in natural delight. Without the stress and scurry, life is truly a blessing. Repeat after me: there is no present like the present moment! If we could make up our minds like we make up a room or make up a lunch, we could set ourselves straight on a daily basis.

Geneticist Bruce Lipton wrote The Biology of Belief, 2008. He writes the mind is composed of energy and is not a physical entity. Recently Deepak Chopra, MD explained scientists have never been able to physically locate the mind or the function of memory anywhere in the body. Evidence suggests memory is a function of the mind, he said. Eastern philosophical and religious traditions also believe the mind to be non-physical, and located in our "center" behind the heart, in the middle of the chest. Supporting these ancient concepts, recent neurological research shows more neurological information originates from our heart than from our brain, where it radiates and communicates with the body by neuroenergetic vibrations. (Rollin McCraty, Ph. D. The Living Matrix, 2009.)

Einstein assured scientists everything in the universe is reducible to energy invisible as the wind. Chopra teaches the mind is not inside the body, but rather we exist inside an invisible field where everything is made. Chopra, in a recent interview, stated that a shift in consciousness induces a shift in biology. That is to say that changing our thinking or self talk can cause changes in body functioning such as regulating the heart or changing blood results, and these biological changes can show up in testing in as little as three months. So if you feel you are losing your mind over the everyday rush, remember the mind is invisible and you have the ability to empty it of stress and refill it with joy and calm contentment. It is important how we decide to use our minds. Use yours to accept the gift of the present moment and unwrap daily a package of energy for your own enjoyment of life. To your good health!
