The Wise Mind: The Brilliant Key to Life Transformation

A Book Review by Tim Brunson DCH

Transformation is different than change, says Marilyn Gordon, BCH, CI, in The Wise Mind: The Brilliant Key to Life Transformation. She claims that true transformation is a matter of dynamically altering perspectives. After reading this quite enjoyable and inspirational book, I couldn't help being impressed with its immense wisdom and clarity.

Ms. Gordon lucidly presents two core concepts. One is the existence of a "Wise Mind", which is a sort of super-consciousness pretty much akin to the Freudian super-ego. This inner wisdom transcends the volitional conscious mind and the automatic subconscious. Next is a belief that a person can resolve most of life's challenges possibly to include mental and health afflictions through the use of a four step process. This is based on a healing principle of Experience-Release-Transform. Her claim is that this technology is "the product of contemporary invention combined with ancient wisdom." I agree.

Although the The Wise Mind is couched in seemingly "New Age" lingo with more than a dash of timeless quotes from a multitude of ancient religious notables, I found her approach to be practical and worthy read for those interested in self-help and clinical applications. Her essential concepts could be easily fit within a more scientifically oriented professional how-to manual complete with readily available references.

There are several features of the book that I feel str strong contributions. One of the best is a rather extensive set of practical exercises and techniques designed to allow the reader to get in touch with their inner mind. She also provides a set of very clear and effective hypnosis scripts which also assist with the process.

In summary, this is a highly readable and enjoyable book that will contribute to multiple facets of a person's transformation. The additional insight provided to clinicians and the public alike make this a welcomed addition to any library.
